Over the past decade, the Australian mining industry has flourished, increasing the demand for highly skilled labour. Due to the shortage of qualified engineers, Engineering Experience Program and the Professional Year in Engineering are offered to help international graduates make the transition into the Australia workforce.
Participants will learn about working as an engineering professional and Australian workplace culture, developing the key skills needed to secure employment and be effective in the workplace.
Engineering Education Australia is a wholly owned subsidiary of Engineers Australia, the peak body of engineers in Australia with more than 92,000 members.
Engineering Education Australia delivers education and training on behalf of Engineers Australia. Over the last nine years, Engineering Education Australia has delivered education and training to 21, 763 engineers from 1687 different Engineering Organisations.
The Engineering Experience Program
The Engineering Experience Program is designed for overseas qualified engineers with advanced English skills who want to gain exposure to Australian engineering standards or travel and work in Australia.
Participants of this program will complete an 80 hour work readiness program followed by a 12 week unpaid vocational placement in their engineering field. It will provide graduates with key relationships with employers and a good understanding of the engineering job market in Australia to help them prepare for the next step in their international career.

The Professional Year in Engineering
Engineers Australia Professional Year in Engineering is a 44 week job readiness program. The program is aimed at Australian or overseas qualified engineers with the professional skills for a successful career in engineering in Australia either as a permanent resident or simply as a professional looking to gain work experience overseas.
This program is an initiative of the Australian Department of immigration and Citizenship to address the skill shortage in Australia and provide graduates with the soft skills to improve their employability and understanding of the Australian work environment. Over 26 weeks, particpants learn about culture and communication in the workplace, career building and business fundamentals followed by a 12 week vocational placement with a host company.
Graduates will be eligible for bonus migration points towards permanent residence.
Please note that participants must be eligible to hold 476 Recognised Graduate visa (This visa allows recent engineering graduate of selected overseas universities to gain up to 18 months of skilled work experience in Australia or a 485 Skilled Graduate visa to enrol in this program.

Yes, participants who hold a visa with work rights in Australia are able to work during the theory component of the program.
Where will I complete my 12 week vocational placement?
However, the 12 week vocational placement will be full time , 5 days a week. All placements will be unpaid.

The industry consists of companies who explore, extract, processand export minerals and petroleun. The continued high price of commodities has led to a booming industry and a constant demand for skilled workers in Western Australia.
As many engineering organisations work on projects in remote or regional areas, participants could be placed in the city or in a remote area.
If the placement is in a regional area, it is expected that the host company will provide transport and accommodation for the intern during the duration of the internship. Interns will not be able to choose where they are placed, however, the placement will be in their specific area of expertise.
