Study MBA at Charles Sturt University

The Master level degree comprises 12 subjects, divided into three fields. The course structure provides students with the ability to tailor their degree to suit their needs and career aspirations.

Core Subjects: Students must complete all four core subjects.

Foundation Subjects: Students must complete any four of the ten foundation subjects.

Restricted Electives/Specialisation:
Students may choose to study a general MBA by completing four 500 level postgraduate restricted elective subjects taken from the MBA restricted elective subjects or students may choose to specialise in one of the eight discipline areas by completing four of the prescribed subjects in the specialisation set.


Master of Business Administration: Core subjects:
MBA501 Management, People and Organisations
MBA503 Marketing for Managers
MBA504 Accounting & Financial Management
MBA508 Business Strategy

Foundation subjects:
Students must complete any four of the following ten subjects:
  • ECO501 Business Economics
  • FIN516 Corporate Finance
  • HRM502 Human Resource Management
  • MBA505 Managing Business Information
  • MBA506 Operations Management
  • MBA507 Business Research Methods
  • MGT536 Leadership and Entrepreneurship
  • MGT540 Management of Change
  • MGT547 Ethics of Corporate Governance
  • MGT553 Project Management
Restricted electives:
Students must complete four Postgraduate subjects from the list of electives approved for offering in the MBA. Subjects may be completed as part of the specialisations outlined as follows or as a set of general restricted electives. A list of approved subjects is provided below.

Specialisations available:
Business Research#
  • MBA507 Business Research Methods
  • MGT565 Business Research Project (16 points) — offered over 2 sessions
  • MGT553 Project Management
#Note: The Business Research specialisation can only be taken with the approval of the MBA Course Manager.
Students who complete this specialisation graduate with the award Master of Business Administration (Business Research) MBA(BusRes).

Economic Analysis*
  • ECO501 Business Economics
  • ECO503 International Economics (offered every second year from 2010)
  • ECO515 Managerial Economics (offered every second year from 2011)
  • ECO517 Economic Evaluation (offered every second year from 2011)
Students who complete this specialisation graduate with the award Master of Business Administration (Economic Analysis) MBA(EconAnlys).

Educational Leadership*
  • ESA501 Leadership in Education 1
  • ESA502 Leadership in Education 2
  • ESA503 Management of Educational Change
  • ESA504 Education Policy Analysis
Students who complete this specialisation graduate with the award Master of Business Administration (Educational Leadership) MBA(EdLship).

Finance*
Four of the following:
  • FIN516 Corporate Finance
  • FIN522 Financial Modelling
  • FIN530 Money and Capital Markets
  • FIN531 Investments Analysis
  • FIN535 Strategic Finance
  • FIN560 Financial Planning
Students who complete this specialisation graduate with the award Master of Business Administration (Finance) MBA(Fin).

Human Resource Management*
Four of the following:
  • HRM502 Human Resource Management
  • Plus 3 of the following:
    • HRM514 International Human Resource Management
    • HRM523 Advanced Studies in Industrial Relations
    • HRM528 Strategic Human Resource Development
    • HRM560 Human Resource Development
Students who complete this specialisation graduate with the award Master of Business Administration (Human Resource Management) MBA(HRM).

Information Technology*
  • ITC501 Strategic Information Management
  • ITC540 Telecommunications Management PG
  • ITC574 Information Technology for Management
  • ITC594 E-Systems Infrastructure Development
Students who complete this specialisation graduate with the award Master of Business Administration (Information Technology) MBA(InfoTech).

Marketing*

Public Sector Management*
